The touchpad of my Dell 1537 has a very jerky/freezing response, but only when the laptop is plugged in. When I run off of battery power the touchpad responds just fine. This problem came on suddenly, and affects both my vista and ubuntu partitions. USB mice are not affected.

At first, if I rebooted the laptop once or twice with it plugged in the entire time then it would work just fine. Now I always have a jerky response when plugged in.

I'm thinking this is either a hardware or a bios problem. Does anybody have any idea?

    Try reinstalling drivers first...

Sorry, should have mentioned- This happens in both my Linux and Windows partitions. I'm assuming this rules out a driver problem, because the two use different drivers.
