I have one of these and quite like it. Except for its screen. It's absolutely fine for writing and text editing, but pictures don't look great on it and the viewing angle is not particularly wide.

For example, an iPad 2's IPS screen displays pictures with much greater color accuracy. And when showing pictures to someone with this laptop, I have to be careful with positioning the laptop for my audience lest the colors get washed out or, worse, go "negative"(!)

I've been in contact with one of the screen vendors here and they didn't have a better screen.

Just curious if others have had success with or know of a source for a compatible 17.3-inch screen that is IPS.

I'm a hobbyist photographer (not a pro by any means) and want to be able to edit pictures effectively on my travels. A better screen would be very handy.

Definetly not possible.. 17" IPS screen would require a eDP port and I seriously doubt your inspiron has one..
