Hi, i have a Inspiron 8200 notebook. One night, i was using it without having the AC adapter plugged and the battery ran out. AFter i plugged back it, it wouldn't charge. HOwever, at the same time, it doesn't drain any power from the battery. After a couple of week, the notebook wouldn't even power up even with full battery and the AC Adapter plugged. Does anybody know why?
I have emailed Dell and they told me that it would be the motherboard problem and it would cost $700 to fix it. With $700, i bet that i can buy a better labtop.
    Thanks

    how old is your laptop?

if you're hitting the three year mark, you may want to check your CMOS battery.

i have a 3 year old Inspiron 2100 that had the same problem. the fix should be somewhere between 10 and 50 bux depending on shipping/tax/etc.

    good luck

It may sound a bit strange but take a pencil eraser and rub the contact points on your battery. I had the same problem before with one of my company's computers and this did the trick. It will remove gunk from the metal. I also utilized this trick on pagers while I worked in pager reprogaming and repair when I was in college.
