I purchased 8gb of Corsair Vengence DDR3 ram to upgrade my laptop. When I install the ram and turn on the computer it will not load the OS. BIOs reconizes the 8gb of ram. The ram was purchased from Newegg which said the ram is compatible. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    RAM: Corsair Vengeance CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9

    Laptop Specs:
    Dell Alienware M15x
    Intel Core i7 M620
    Nvidia gtx260m
    Bios version A09

Please let me know if you need more info

Are you talking a circa 2010 era platform?

What O/S are you running? Did you do a clean install? Did you pay attention to the order of driver installs?

    See:

While the RAM you have should down clock to 1333MHz, maybe it doesn't?

Does it boot with a single stick? Did you properly seat the SoDimms?

Try (gently) blowing out the sockets and polishing the pins.

    Good luck.

According to dell its early 2011. I am running Windows 7 professional x64 and it was a clean install. I was pretty sure I installed the drivers in the correct order but its hard to remember since the current os has been installed for over 2 years now. If this could be the problem would you suggest uninstalling and reinstalling drivers?
Also I have not tried only one SoDimm I will try that tomorrow and see what happens. I did clean the sockets but it did not help.

    Thanks for your help

Yeah, Dell may have launched that model in 2011 but the platform it is built on is at least a year older.

If you have a spare drive available for testing; try installing the O/S to that drive. Don't need to see it fully setup, just need to see if Windows boots period.

If it does, I would do a clean install on the main system drive rather than messing with drivers which is often fruitless.

Actually, I would be installing Win8.1x64Pro instead (and on an SSD, of course).

    Good luck.

If it does not help, please try to force your RAM to 1333MHz via XMP profiles in the BIOS.

I did try forcing it to 1333MHz but it did the same thing; boot till it got to the starting windows screen (win 7 logo doesn't appear) and just sits for awhile until it reboots.

    Thanks

Try different brand of RAM or one rated for 1333MHz.

I tried doing a clean install with the new ram modules installed but the setup would not load. I guess I will just have to order different ram. This is just very frustrating since Newegg's memory finder said it would work (I selected this ram since it was actually cheaper than most if not all of the 8gb 1333mhz kits).
Thank you guys for all your help.

Sorry it didn't work, but at least you know it is not your O/S install and/or any of it's drivers.

The 'lessor' and older RAM being more expensive today is only one reason why I usually recommend buying and maximizing the RAM from early on in the lifecycle of a new system. Not only would the benefits of the RAM max'd platform be utilized from those early days, but you also don't risk the prices of compatible RAM to increase either or worse; not be readily available anymore.

Hope you find the RAM your system needs. Good luck.

I got on corsair's site and purchased a 1333Mhz set that they said is guaranteed to work with my system.
Also I will definitely take your advice into account when I eventually purchase a new computer.

    Thanks again for your help!
