I bought a new 80GB drive for my CSx to replace the dying 10 gig.

The new one will not even spin up, even though Drive Solutions (the vendor I got it from) says it should be compatible. It's installed in the caddy just like it should be....

Now, there are a couple of jumper pins that aren't set (on the old HD, they weren't set either, )
Should I try setting a jumper on say, CS? The 10 gig fires right up, but this is the third 80 to just not work.

hmm, well that CSx is a bit on the older side.
It has a mobile pentium 3 processor, which means that the system board probably only recognizes up to ata66 based laptop harddrives.

The problem you are having, is that you replaced your old harddrive, with a fairly new harddrive.
This new drive most likely uses the ata6 interface, which is ata 100.
The motherboard in your laptop probably only works with ata 5 laptop drives.

Can you tell us the model number of both the old harddrive, and the new harddrive.

I hope that you put the adaptor from the old harddrive onto the new harddrive. If you didnt put the adaptor onto the new harddrive, then it will not physically connect to the motherboard, and the drive will not power up.
