    Hey Guys,

I've been wanting to buy a new laptop for a while, but quickly realized that I don't really want a new one, just a touchscreen on my current laptop. It is a Dell Latitude D420.

So my question is: is it possible to replace the lcd on my monitor for a touchscreen one?

If it is, I need some general info on how to do it and where to get the screen? I don't really intend to do it soon, maybe in July/August before school starts again. And I also don't really intend on doing it unless it's really easy, hence why I'm asking just for general info right now. For the screen, I am asking because I might just order it and get a tech to do it.

    Thank you,
    TJ

I do not think it is possible to do this. You can get an external touch screen, like a wacom tablet, but those are very expensive.
If you were able to find a large touch screen, chances are great that it will have a different interface than the one your d420 uses, so you would not be able to use it unless you have the pinouts of the laptops graphics card and the tablet lcd. If you can get the pinouts for both, than you can make an adapter, but this is pretty complex an involves lots of skill/precision.
