Hello all, happy late new year, hope its going to be a good one!.

I have nothing else i can upgrade on this laptop, and i need to do something to it, so, last thing is the screen, I have the std. 14.1 inch. it looks some what ugly with the 1 inch borders.. also, i would love the extra viewing area with vista.
So, i have the 940GML board, what would i need to upgrade the screen? Can i use any 15 inch in the 1024X768 rez, and then place it in the lid, or do i also need to buy a new lid, hinges, and the front plastic that goes around the screen. anything else?
    thanks... :D :D
Edit: also, if anyone has a full screen off of a Latitude, or off another dell that will fit the D520, pm me if you would like to sell.

If you're model came with a 15 or 15.4 build to order option, check ebay and see if they have the bezel and other parts for a 15in then your can just swap the panel and bezel i'm pretty sure... although you might have to get new hinges because sometimes like on my old acer, the screen hinges attach at the outer edges of the lcd panel itself, so a wider panel would mean wider hinges.

You will need to find out what screens it can take, and you will also need the corresponding bezel, otherwise it will not fit.

dude at the rate ur trying to upgrade the laptop, just get a new one... but i doubt a 15 inch screen would fit... a similar 14 inch with higher resolution might work...

Upgrading the screen is costly so you should try looking at other solutions, like a new notebook if the price and build quality is right.
But you may get lucky and find a cheap replacement with better resolution that 1024x768.

Alright, so i should of posted this in the Dell section. the D520 comes with a 14.1 inch 1024X768, a 15 inch 1024X768. and a 15 inch SXGA+.

The 14.1 inch is just a smaller screen in a 15 inch case. :(

Alright, so after my 14.1 inch screen broke, i went on ebay, and found a 15 inch SXGA+ off of an another D520... I contacted dell support, just to make sure that the connections are the same, and that this screen will work, and display at the 1400X1050 res, and dell support said it will. I made it be known to them i have a 940GML, and they said does not matter..

    So short story.
Upgrade to D520 15 inch SXGA+, Connections are same, should be no problems.

This is the item i won, it should be here by Saturday... Will let you know how it goes.

So, i received the complete laptop screen in the mail today, installed it, and its the 15 inch XGA!!!! Before i bought the screen i emailed the seller of the screen, just to make sure it was the SXGA+ and he told me it was the SXGA...... So i emailed the seller again, and told him that he sent me the XGA 1024X768 and not the SXGA+ 1400X1050. I am waiting for a reply... :( Because HE messed up im going to have to send this screen back to him, again with me paying shipping.....

After using the external Dell Ultrashap 17 inch at SXGA Res, this 15inch is now way to big at XGA res...

    ugh.

oh yeah, i paid $100 for this XGA screen, i would of not paid that much if i knew it was XGA. I was Expecting a SXGA+.... :( Like that was listed... So we will see if the seller will make it right.

    SELLER WROTE: 2PM TODAY
Hello - you may be right on this. I think a mistake was made in the listing. I will check stock and see if we have any SXGA+ ones here.

    I WROTE: 100PM TODAY
Hi, I did receive the screen in great condition, but have a problem. It is the 15 inch XGA (1024X768) and not the SXGA+ (1400X1050)... I dont think dell offered a SXGA(1280X1024) for the D520 line.
    Displays: Standard aspect 14.1" XGA (1024 x 768 resolution), 15" XGA (1024 x 768 resolution) or 15" SXGA+ (1400 x 1050 resolution)

    Thank you.

Hi, will this one work on my current D520 Latitude? It has the 14.1 Inch 1024X768, and Intel 940GML Motherboard. and i know this screen was a option, but just to make sure before i buy. From the picture, the connector is same. But the only problem, is will the computer notice that this screen can go higher then the 1024X768, and unlock the higher res? I hooked up a external monitor, and it is displaying in 1280X1024, so the video card can handle this res, so everything is telling me, there should be no problems... just i want to make sure, so not to waste my time, or yours. thank you.

This one is SXGA. Good luck!

I ASKED: 4 days ago ORG question to seller.
Hi, I have the 14.1 inch 1024X768 stn screen.
well, long story short, it is now broken.. I would
like to upgrade to the 15 inch. But my question
is, what is the screen res, i see it is listed as
a SXGA, but is this screen really the XGA or is it
    really the SXGA? Thanks!!

ugh.... So he does not have any SXGA+ screens on hand..... So i said a partial refund would be great... He gave me $8.50????? so i paid 92.50 for that screen.. Is that a fair price?

I feel like i still over paid by like $22.50.. Or i should say i would of only paid $70 with shipping for a 15 inch XGA screen.

Where i paid $99.99 for what i thought was a SXGA+ with shipping...
