Hi this is my first post - i own a Dell D610 latitude laptop running with a mobile 2.26ghz processor
am i able to upgrade this with a pentium 4 mobile 3.33ghz processor with hyper threading?
thanks for your replies...
-
No, it only supports Pentium M CPUs with an FSB of 533Mhz. By the way the 3.33Ghz P4 is slower and much hotter than the current CPU, which is the top of the line for that notebook.
Not all CPUs are equal...there is a factor of about 1.5x between the P4 and the PM. So a 2.26 is about equal to a 3.4 P4. -
thanks for that... my computer runs a 2.26ghz processor, 128mb graphics card and 2gb of ram but i still cannot play starcraft 2.... what else can i upgrade?

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Your drivers maybe?
But if you already have the X300 and SCII isn't working, the X300 is probably below the absolutely minimum GPU power required to run the game, even at the lowest settings (unless you're trying to run it at something other than the lowest settings). And you can't upgrade the GPU.
I dunno, I thought I had beta working at almost playable frames on a similar machine... maybe not. -
2.26GHz is the fastest CPU for your laptop. Unless you want to do a pin mod:

What is your HDD speed? if its 4200rpm of 5400rpm you should upgrade to a 7200rpm. -
how do i find out what speed my hardisk is? thanks
-
If you download and run a program called HD Tune you can get the model number for your drive. A quick Google search should lead you to the manufacturer's specification page.
Keep in mind though that hard drive speeds only affect game load times. It is not going to make a difference for actual gaming.
If you're trying to get SC2 running on that laptop, you probably need to start by updating the GPU drivers. -
The D610 isn't Sata, so that will limit your options for a harddrive upgrade to a few 5,400 rpm drives.
If you want to play SC2 you will need a new laptop with a decent GPU. The game is a bit more demanding than you would expect from Blizzard. -
The GPU on the D610 is definitely weak. The game recommends at a minimum:
For the OP there is no harm in trying to see if we can get it working though. He already has the laptop
.

Yeah, but I wouldn't put any money into it. Even if he could get it working, it will play poorly. Its the GPU that needs to be better and it cannot be upgraded.
-
Agreed on the money. Hard drive isn't going to help, RAM isn't going to help if the GPU isn't up to it. Upgrading the CPU at this point doesn't make sense, again definitely not if the GPU can't do it.
Blasted GPU's. Always trying to get in the way of us gamers
.

is there another chip set i could use from another dell laptop?
-
No 10char.
-
GPUs are these machines cannot be upgraded, sorry.
-
so basically there is nothing more i can do.... is it new laptop time just to play a £30 game... thats crazy!

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Do a clean install and use the latest drivers. Turn off all unnecessary programs and processes, etc. If that doesn't do it, nothing will. That's just how technology works... -
ok thanks will try this...
-
Well its a 5 year old laptop. The game is worth almost as much as the laptop.
-
This. Your laptop uses an ancient technology (codenamed Sonoma). It would be crazy if Blizzard targeted your platform during development of SC2.
