I have just been running a Prime 95 torture test on a D620 with a 2Ghz Core 2 Duo. The CPU Temp (as reported by Notebook Hardware Control) rose to 83C before I stopped it. No instabilities, but I think that is a little too high, even NHC started complaining about it!
Does anyone else have the same problem with a Core 2 Duo or a D620?

Wow, not cool. Probably hasn't been around in any environment long enough for it to get dirty inside, so I can't just recommend cleaning it. Opening it for a thermal upgrade would void your warranty. Maybe undervolting it a little? Or make sure you keep SpeedStep on?

Well you were torture-testing the CPU, so obviously it was working really hard..
How long had Prime95 been running? -

Even my ancient PIII ULV which had to take up the slack for the ancient integrated graphics in my old portege didn't get above 74 degrees. 83 is high, although I have heard of other core duos running rather hot.
I'd say check your speedstep settings, try undervolting and also try checking the maximum temps on intel's website so you know what you're dealing with. Most mobile cpus are based around 100 degrees plus tech, but I have no idea about cores as i'm not sure how entirely mobile they are. -
Intel list the C2D to run up to 100c, but obviously you don't want it running too close to this as more heat = bad stuff. (Very technical analogy there I know).
Since you were running a torture test its expected that the CPU temps would rise a lot, how are you finding normal usage on the machine? -
Thats way to high for me. Even though Intel says it can go that high, I wouldn't take the chances. My Sempron went up to 73 degrees (c) on the torture test with the OC, but I wasn't happy with that so I got my Bytecc cooling pad.
It is important to take into considderation your idle temps. You won't be doing a torture test every day hopefully, so if your normal idle temps are very reasonable (45 - 55 degrees), then you are all set.
Dell D620 CPU Temps a little high!
