    I have Dell D810 laptop with Intel® Pentium® M 750 1.86 GHz processor :(
ATI X600 Video Card, 1 GB Ram

Looking to upgrade to 2GB Ram then possibly cpu or vid card
<<Say using multiple memory eating programs or running games like BF2, FEAR>>
Does anyone think if I upgrade to 2GB Ram would it help much?

Have you considered not upgrading and saving for new. Might not cost much more will have warranty, latest technology. If you upgrade and somthing goes wrong your out of luck. Just a thought.

    2GB will Help.

The extra 1gb of ram would definitely help out. Whether you use Xp or Vista you would see a noticeable increase in overall system responsiveness.

Don't bother with the processor upgrade, it won't do anything significant for you. A CPU upgrade is difficult and will void any warranty the laptop has. You will never get the performance increase to justify the $250. And I'd bet $250 on that statement.

What applications do you run on the laptop?

What hard drive do you have Golden? Upgrading to a 7200RPM model will give the most noticeable performance boost since the hard drive is the slowest component in the system. Anything that involves the hard drive, i.e. booting up, opening programs, will benefit.

And definitely go to 2GB of RAM. That is a cheap upgrade. You need DDR2-533 - check the RAM DEALS thread.

Not possible to upgrade the vid card, it's soldered to the mobo. The ram is by far the best return for your money upgrade. Can't go wrong with upgrading to 2GB

If you are willing to spend $250 for a new cpu, why not sell your D810 (going for $450-$650 on ebay), add in the $250 and buy a new laptop?
Cpu upgrades maybe worth it, but only if you can get a new cpu at a resonable price (less then $50). Anything more expensive doesn't justify the performance gain you will see.

Skibums: Thats what I have planned and thanks, I understand what your saying
Chaz: I Run 3Danimation and multiple memory-eating softwares, also run BF2 and FEAR
I Have Hitachi Hard Drive 5400 RPM 60 GB, didn't think of the H-D
I'll most likely be upgrading the H-D and RAM
    Thanks for the suggestions

Get the RAM it's cheap. If you get a HDD you can transfer to your new notebook. If you wait to long NB's will be 10,000 so think about that. Buy the Ram and save money to get a new NB is my advice but you gotta do what you gotta do!
