If you have purchased a Dell E1505 with the intigrated Intel 9xx video card, you CAN NOT upgrade your video card.

If you purchased a Dell E1505 with an ATI or Nvidia video card than you CAN upgrade the video card.

Hope this clears things up for people that seem confused.

VIDEO CARDS AVAILABLE FOR THE E1505: (as of 7/9/2006)
    ATI X1300 (128 meg)
    ATI X1400 (256 meg)
Nvidia Geforce Go 7300 (256 meg)

NOTE - the x1300 and x1400 are the exact same card except for the amout of ram on board

Due to HUGE request and demand, Dell would be retarded if they didnt at some point have available a better gaming card for the E1505 because the Core 2 Duos (Conroe or more accuretly "merom" as the mobile version is called and will be out August 22) will work in the current E1505's that have a Core Duo (or Centrino Duo as it is also called) installed.

Thanks for clearing it up. But, Can you share why upgrade is not possible if one did not order the e1505 with only integrated Intel graphics? Is the video upgrade a built-in module on the motherboard and not a card that you install?

Its a PCI-e slot, (some one posted a picture of where it is located). Intel Integrated is soldered onto the motherboard, so it cannot be upgraded.

Even though it can be upgrade I'm sure it won't be significantly powerful like X1600 because Dell E1505 chasis only support card with one VGA slot and I don't think a powerful card with VGA n DVI slot can fit inside

When the e1505 was first released, everybody were saying it comes with an integrated video card and cannot be upgraded, till dell offered the option of adding a dedicated video card with it!

Adding a more advanced video card with the dell e1505 (like 7800/7900) will face 3 difficulties:

    1. providing enough space for the video card, if you have some guts then prepare the scalpel for some incisions! (by the way I can do that but i already have a laptop and I am in short of money to do this experiment, but it is a challenge that I would love to win) .

    2. providing a good cooling system for the card, you cant use the old cooling metal piece for the new card because they are diffeent in dimentions! (no occlusion), prepare your scalpel here as well!, and if you got friends who built bikes it is even better... they will do some welding for you, and also don't forget inhancing the power of the only fan in the system as mentioned once in a similar upgrade (the amilo with ATI X1800).

    3. BIOS issues!, but I don't think they are big issues since some poeple managed to upgrade to 7800 gtx on another different dell, here is a link for who is interested: http://laptoplogic.com/resources/detail.php?id=31

Forget about the warrenty

The x1400 is not the same as the x1300.

I'd have to say that heat would be the biggest issue with a faster video card. If you pay attention to the notebook market. There is usually this line of video cards that none of the makers will pass with their 15.4 notebooks. I would assume heat is the reason.

Heat is not really an issue for gpu like X1600 or go7600 eg ASUS manage to put them in A8jm and W3j both of them are 14.1"
Like I said before the most common issue would be the limited ports for the DVI and room inside the laptop and not less important the power supply
but let us hope that Dell will come up with something "smart" ;)
