Hey everyone,
My nvidia geforce 7900gs just burned out, so I already ordered a better upgrade, the geforce 7900 GTX. Now, I have a few questions about this upgrade. I know I have to buy a 130W power supply PA-13, but when I search ebay for it a bunch of different part numbers come up and Im not sure which one to buy for my E1705. The power ratings on my 90W adapter are Input: AC 100-240V~1.5A 50-60Hz and Output: DC 19.5V 4.26A. If someone could search ebay and find a brand new adapter that is compatible with my e1705 and that can power the 7900 GTX, and link it, I'd appreciate it.![]()
My other question is do I have to modify my laptop in any other way except for the chassis mod? Any BIOS mods needed or anything?
Thanks a bunch.![]()

So lucky that you can upgrade your graphics card... I recently just found out that mine is soldered...

Before you take your system apart and upgrade the graphics card, you should read this web page:

Their is a lot of great images and explanations which can help you along the way.
The 7900GTX is compatible, and I think you can still use it even on your current 90 watt powersupply.

About the bios. I have no idea on how to upgrade the bios. Is an upgrade even needed to have this vid card function? I bought my laptop in may of 2007, do I already have the latest bios? If I do need an upgrade, how to I get around to doing that?
Thanks. -
Dell will post the latest Bios on their webpage.
Go here:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=INS_PNT_P4_9400&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
The latest Bios version is A09.
When you turn your E1705 on, look at the lower part of your screen under where the Dell name appears. When the Bios boots, the revision number will be posted their.
To enter the Bios press F2.
Dell's website tells you how to install the latest bios, when you download the file.
