I'm thinking of picking up one of the Dell XPS machines but am wondering about the screen.
16.0" Edge to Edge High Definition (720p) LED Display with TrueLife(TM) specifically.
Whats the max resolution on these things? How about on the 1080p? 1920x1280 resolution is the highest I can find on the Inspirons.
Any other high resolution screens I should be looking at on other laptops?
-
720p = 1366x768
900p = 1600x900
1080p = 1920x1080 -
Well normally 720p would be 1280*720. But Dell calls their 1366*768 display 720p, so Mastershroom's list is right.
There are several 15" and 17" laptops with 1900*1200. -
The Media Player used upscales/resizes the video source no matter if it's 480 pixels or less, 720p, 1080i or 1080p to fit your laptop screen or external display connected or it simply outputs 1:1 (no upscale/rescale) full HD if your internal or external display has 1920 x 1080 or 1200 pixels (16:9 or 16:10 aspect). I never heard of 900p.
In US 720x480 is considered DVD quality, could be 480i or 480p
Then 1280x720 is 720p which is HD content.
And finally full HD is 1920x1080, could be 1080i or 1080p.
Anything in between is not a standard resolution. -
Twiz57, the information you post is correct but it's not what dblurton was asking.

i have a HD monitor on my laptop but the max res is 1280 X 800. Is this full HD?
-
^ The whole "HD" tag has started to get confusing (and unnecessary when talking about laptop screens, imo). In the end, its just resolution. For laptops, its entirely pointless to think of the screen as "HD" or "Full HD." Your laptop has 1280x800 resolution, and that's the important spec you should know, not whether its HD or full HD or whatever.
When something says "Full HD", they should be referring to a resolution of 1920x1080, but this is more relevant to hdtvs. -
1280x800 should be able to show 720p content without scaling, just letterboxing.
