ok so I have the choice of getting my inspiron with 1-4gb of ram.
What I want to know is.. does Dell do 2x512mb rams for 1gb, or 1x1gb?
and how many ram chip slots does the inspiron 1520 come with??
-
Comes w/2 slots, and unless they say and you pay more, 2X512MB.
-
so is there a way to get 1x1gb?
or should I just get 2gb from Dell?
my laptop spec is gonna be T7300, 8600m GT -
I say just ebay the 2x 512 you get and get the 2 gb. or just toss em. Either way, it's cheaper than actually BUYing the 2 gb upgrade. If you are a computer newb, just spend the $125 or buy a pizza for your local computer geek and ask him to install it for ya. That's where the pizza grease on my lappy is from. haha

ic ic... i've installed ram chips in my desktop before, never in laptops, but I can manage right???
oh and one more thing.
are the chips 667mhz or 800mhz? -
upgrade on your own!
667Mhz RAM. -
I believe it is 667 Mhz
-
It's 667mhz.
Replacing RAM sticks on recent Dells is easy a pie. Just unscrew the memory panel under the laptop and you have direct access to the 2 memory slots. -
-
I agree..this IS stupid.... it's a setback from the Inspiron 1505/6400 model.... I understand that about 90% of buyers will never change the RAM but still... it's stupid...

I just bought a Dell off ebay with the specs you want.. I'd pay a little more and get the Asus G1 with the 8600m GT. It's clock and whatnot are far superior to the Dell.
The Dell blows for playing games. I'm running
T7300,
2 gigs 667 Mhz.,
Dell/Nividia Geforce 8600M GT,
Windows Vista 32 bit.
Sad part is that my Pentium 4
3.2 ghz.
2 gigs of corsair XMS pro memory,
and Raedon X850 Pro -- Flashed to X850 XT/PE
is getting higher bench marks than a computer/card that is probably
5 years newer technology-wise. I built this thing a long time ago..
Originally with a Geforce 4 somethin or other in it.
My dell runs Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion like crap on medium settings. My 5 year old desktop, runs the game better.
Though I got my Dell for 1100 bucks off Ebay and saved about 500. So I am not complaining. Just saying.
