    Hey Guys,

I have an Inspiron 1720 with a PENTIUM DUAL CORE T2390 CPU.

I also have my friends (completely ruined) Dell studio 1535 which has a CORE2DUO T5750 in.

Would my friends CPU be compatible with my laptop and would it be worth swapping it into my Inspiron?

    Thanks.

That CPU should work. Make sure you have updated your BIOS to the latest version. Inspiron 1720 is a bit of work to get to, but you should be able to get to the motherboard in about 10-15 minutes. Go to support.dell.com and punch in your service tag to get your service manual.

You can also go to any 800 FSB Core 2 Duo if you wish.

    Ahh thanks for the advice.

Yep i'm fully confident taking this laptop apart as i've done it before with no problems. I have more RAM and a better hard drive to put in too which should pose no problems. My only worry was whether the CPU would be compatible. So yeah thanks for the help, i'll go get me some thermal paste later and crack on.
