Yup, your options are the Geforce FX5200 64 MB and the ATI 9600 128MB.

ps. andrew, i read some more posts on this board and saw that you said before that the card is removeable, and checked ebay and found the radeon card (made for the 8600) for about 260 or 300... but if possible i'd much rather get it directly from dell... do you know if they were just uninformed when i called before? should they offer me the choice of buying this card?

thanks so much, i just really wana play half life 2 on something better than the geforce 4200 :(

hey i really appreciate you guys helping, but even with that information, dell is being lame. i know they now SELL the 8600 new with a choice of those two cards...but i dont think there's any way of upgrading once i've already purchased the laptop. They also told me (and so did ATI) that they cant sell me the mobility card separately either. have you guys heard anything different than this? or are you just speaking of upgrading during the initial purchase?

    thanks a lot :)

Although i have no personal experience, I have heard of people calling multiple times and eventually getting a really great representative who would sell the part. The card isn't worth what they're selling it for on eBay. That's about all i can tell you.

I too have a 8600 with a Gforce FRX Go 5200 (or whatever) and would badly like to buy a RADEON 9600 XT 128MB AGP. Where do I look.. I hear the ones (I haven't seen any but...) on EBay are overpriced... any suggestions?

I have a Inspiron 8500 and im trying to get my hands on that card for ages. havent rang dell yet but im going to when i get home for the weekend.

E-bay is selling for $299 total rip off but seen as their hard to get hold of i see his reasoning.

If any of you find where to get one can you please e-mail me at [email protected]

    Thanks.

I was about to get one off dell, but last minute i called dell, and i got a nice representative who sold it to me :), they had it priced at about 240 i believe but with stupid shipping tax it was at 260 or 270... still less than on ebay though :)... i'm away at college so i havn't gotten it in my hands yet, but its safely waiting at home with my mommy yay. anyway, it better be the right card haha. you should try calling dell.
