That harddrive is not going to even work in your laptop.
The inspiron 8600 uses IDE based harddrives.
If you are shopping for a new harddrive you are going to want something bigger and faster than what you have right?
Their are two drives to look at in my books, the Samsung HM160HC and the WD2500BEVE. The Samsung drive is the fastest harddrive for the IDE/ATA/PATA interface, pushing 52mb/sec. It comes at 160Gb capacity at 5400rpm.
The other choice is the WD2500BEVE, which is the second fastest drive. It is a 250gb 5400rpm drive, which can do about 47mb/sec
Both 5400rpm drives are faster than any 7200rpm drive for the interface.
You may want to check out my review of the Samsung HM160HC drive:

You should be able to get the Samsung drive for about $55 on zipzoomfly / lagoom / other sites

You can get the WD2500BEVE drive for $80

I have an Insprion 8500, which is very similar to the 8600.
