When I bought the Dell Inspiron 8600, the best graphics card in the market was the ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo, so of course I told the people at Dell to throw one in my notebook. The 9600 Pro Turbo is an outstanding graphics chip, however, a few of the more recent games start to get a bit choppy if i set the graphics levels too high. The rest of my system pans out like so: 2.0 Ghz Pentium-M Processor, 1 Gig of RAM and a nice widescreen display.
Nowadays the 9700 and 9800 are out. One of my friends who owns an Acer Travelmate 8000 started out with a Mobility Radeon 9700, which he replaced with a 9800 and he has no issues with his graphics card whatsoever.
My question was this: would I be able to swap out my 9600 Pro Turbo for the 9800?
I'm desperate to find out so please let me know!

You cannot upgrade it unless dell decides to make a faster one for that model. Many people did this when they swapped the radeon 9700 in their 9100's for MR 9800's. I have my fingers crossed for an upgrade, but there have been no signs so far.

Why can't I swap them out? I didn't quite understand your reply.

The card is removable, but there are no better cards out that will fit the 8600.
