    Hello all,

    I recently got from a friend, a Dell Inspiron E1705 with integrated Intel GMA945M graphics, and 2x256MB PC2-4200 RAM chips (=512MB Total).

    At the least I want to add a 1GB RAM chip to this configuration, so I wanted to know if I put in a 1GB 667MHz PC2-5300 chip in one of the slots, and kept the other 256MB chip in place... would I be able to get 1.2GB RAM running at 533MHz. Or would this depend on CAS latency as well? if the latency of the 256MB 533MHz chip is 4, will the 1GB 667MHz chip work with it if its CAS latency is 5?

    Essentially I'm really on a budget, and I want to buy this. I want to get sure on whether it will work alongside one of my Dell pre-installed 256MB PC2-4200 Chips.

    My Second Question is... I've seen some guides online that talk about replacing the preinstalled NVidia GeForce Go on E1705's with more powerful GeForce Go's (say from Go 7200 to Go 7900). But is it possible to install an Nvidia GeForce Go graphics chip in place of the Intel GMA945M that my laptop has?

    Thanks a lot.

    My system:
    (Intel Centrino Duo laptop)
    Dell Inspiron E1705 9400
    Intel T2250 1.73GHz Dual Core Processor (Core Duo I think)
    2x256 PC2-4200 DDR2 RAM
    (says 794MHz 504MB under My Computer->System Properties)
    Intel GMA945M Graphics
    Running Windows XP Media Center

    im not sure about the gpu question - but as far as ram goes - you can install two different speed ram modules, but the computer will only work at the LOWER of the two speeds - but im thinking youll have to get a pc2 4200 module...

    1.) The memory will work fine. Check the RAM deals thread for more information.
    2.) No, you CANNOT upgrade from the Integrated GMA950; sorry. :/ You'll have to buy a different laptop

    Yes, you can mix match any DDR2 sticks.
    No, you cannot upgrade your video card since the one you have is integrated into the mobo, and it is like 95% impossible to upgrade a notebook video card if you even had one.
