I just purchased a replacement LCD for a dell inspiron 8200 and after installing it, still no backlight. I can see the display(barely) but its not illuminated. Before i bought the LCD I replaced the inverter and that of course didnt fix the problem. Besides the CCFL or the inverter going bad, would there be any other reason as to why the backlights wont work? I checked the input voltage on the inverter and Im getting around 18 VDC, but no output voltage...Im not even sure what the output voltage should be but my multimeter has a 600V maximum so if its higher than that i guess i wouldnt know. If anyone can shed any light on this itd be much appreciated. thanks!

Did you buy a replacement LCD assembly or just the LCD panel itself? It sounds like your backlight is dead (since you are getting voltage out of the inverter), and if that hasn't been replaced, it isn't going to suddenly start working if you replace just the LCD panel.

No I bought the entire assembly (LCD, inverter, backlights, bezel, lid, hinges etc) Im not getting power OUT of the inverter according to my multimeter, but there is definitely power going into it. I was thinking another problem may be with the reed switch that controls the backlight when the lid is closed. Im not sure what else to try, thank you though.

That's a tricky one. It's entirely possible that the assembly you bought was bad also. This is a very common problem for Inspirons, so if it was pulled from a used system, it might also be bad. Have you tested more than one inverter? Otherwise, yes... I'd say that switch for when the lid is closed is the best lead.
