I have searched and searched and cannot find my answers. I am not even sure if this is the right place to post this over asked question.

I need to connect my Dell Inspiron e1505 laptop to my Sony WEGA KDF-E55A20 HDTV. I have tried this DVI-A Female to HDD15 (VGA) Male Adapter: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2844466 and this 6- Ft. HDMI-DVI Cable: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2923124 and all I get is a black screen. I am not sure if the guys at my local Radio Shack are the problem or if I am the problem.

Here are the connection ports on my laptop: http://www.flickr.com/photos/9252878@N04/3184167721/ and here are the connections on my TV: http://www.flickr.com/photos/9252878@N04/3184168107/

I will not be able to check this posting until after 2:30 est today. Any help would be great and thank you in advance.

The VGA port of your E1505 outputs an analog video signal, where as HDMI is a digital standard. It is not just a matter of finding the proper connector, the signals are not compatible, that is why you don't see anything. You need a signal converter to convert an analog signal to a digital signal; however, such converters are usually very expensive (~$200 or more). Therefore your best option is to try analog :use a VGA to component cable.

VGA to the component is the best and cheapest way to go.
Try and return those cables you bought, cause they are a rip off.
If you want cheaper cables, check out the "monoprice" website

    PhoenixFX and K-TRON,

Thank you both for the replies! I will order VGA to component cable that you both talked about. I did find that cable before online, but wanted something quick and no one carries it local. Believe me, I will be returning the cables to Rippoff Shack.

    Thanks again!
