    Yeah, I have a latitude C640, please don't laugh :p

Currently it has a 20gb hhd and i'm wondering if anyone knows what size hhd it will support as 20gb just isn't enough but i odn't want to buy a hhd and find that the board doesn't support it.

    Anwyay, thanks all.

Only thing the BIOS notes reveal is that there was an update to fix an issue with detecting/reporting proper drive sizes over 65GB. If you want to play safe, go with a 120GB drive. Not sure if there is 48bit LBA support or not.

I presume you are looking for a HDD with PATA / IDE interface and not SATA (which has only been around for notebooks for a couple of years).

If the BIOS doesn't support 48-bit LBA then you can use up to 137GB although higher capacity HDDs will work subject to that limit. You might also be able to access the remaining space with some fiddling. See the wdc faqs for more.

So basically 120gb is the safe point if I don't know whether or not my BIOS supports 48-bit LBA? Coz I don't :p

    Thanks very much guys

I have a c640, and yes it uses ata based laptop harddrives. I am not sure if it has any lba issues, but you can avoid all of them by getting a 120gb drive. It would be a safe alternative for an upgrade.
