Hi guys, bought a Dell Latitude D600 a few days ago and have suddenly had a problem with it. Battery will not charge, the computer is fine off the mains and I know the mains AC Adapetr works fine, because if it is plugged in and I remove the battery the laptop still runs fine. It recognises that there is a battery and how much power is left, but when the AC adapter is plugged in, if i click on Power meter, the status won't say charging, it just says "current power source : AC Power" even though it knows there is a battery there??? Any ideas whats up guys?? Thank you, appreciate all your help!

Charging circuitry broken? Usually if it's a dead battery, it'll say "charging", but it just won't charge. If this is the same machine with the broken memory slot, you should definitely complain...

yeah, been a pretty troublesome laptop so far!! Is there any way i can fix the battery problem then do you think? I dont really want to take the laptop back because I really do like it, it runs smooth and quickly so not too sure what to do at the moment :(

If it actually is a problem with the power circuitry, there's most likely no way you can fix it. If you file a claim for a full refund, you most likely will have to return the machine and you most likely will have to pay for shipping.

You could try and ask if they're refund you the price of a new motherboard (anywhere between $50 to $75 these days) and replace it yourself, but I doubt they'd let you do it.

Maybe it has something to do with the power adapter. My friend has a m1330, and he has one power adapter that cannot charge the laptop, but all the others are able to. The adapter he cannot charge with has a bent head and is 120 or 130W. Either of which could be a reason why it cannot charge.

    I'd send it back.
I had a problem with a D600 too, it wouldn't take AC power. Changed the DC power jack, but there's something wacky on the motherboard. Maybe yours too.

I've heard these machines have lots of issues, I'd recommend you to take your money back. Get a good machine, I'd recommend a IBM/Lenovo.

Dell D600? As in a 5+ year old machine? Not surprising that the battery is toast.
