I need to upgrade the hard drive on my Dell Latitude D630. It currently has a Seagate 7200RPM 80GB hard drive, which came with it.

    I would like:
    320GB
    7200RPM
low power consumption without sacrificing too much performance
free fall sensor isn't a requirement but i'd rather spend the extra bucks if the manufacture has a model with it over the standard.

I already have a Western Digital 400GB 2.5" external drive to store mostly videos.

I don't have any brand preferences on hard drives. I've sucessfully used Maxtors, Seagates and Western Digitals in desktops and have only used Seagates in notebooks in the past.

I'll be away from home for several months coming up soon so I've been trying to research but I'm running out of time as I need to buy by the end of today so I can get it shipped by the weekend. I will be doing a fresh install on my notebook.

    Thanks.

I've never had a problem with Seagate, although I heard when these new 7200.3s came out a few people were. I've also read that they do have the best performance to power consumption.

Thanks for the suggestion and it's probably what I'll end up buying. How quick is Provantage on shipping?

the seagates do have the fastest results in hdtune, but I think the western digital has the fastest appication loading times. The hitachi has the fastest windows loading time, and it is also the quietest of the 320gb 7200rpm drives.

My brother bought something from provantage about a year ago and it came, but two weeks ago he ordered a hitachi E7k1000 drive from them, and they still never shipped it.
I would try buying it from a different reseller, but i cant find many good places with the seagate ASG drive.
