    Dell Latitude E6420 i7 ?

    I have a Dell Latitude E6420 that came with intel i5 wanted to know if I can upgrade the cpu toa i7 if so what type of cpu? :confused:

    You can use any of the socketed SB i7s: basically anything that's an i7-2xxx.

    The Latitude E6420 can also run Sandy Bridge Quad Cores too, a friend of mine had fitted an i7-2720QM in his E6420 without too much trouble. I wouldn't really bother going for a Dual Core i7 from a Core i5 as I doubt you would see much performance difference in real terms, especially with the costs involved too.

    right now my Dell E6420 is a Intel i5 and its a Sandy Bridge right now. Does that make a differnce when I go to i7?

    The quad core i7s generate a tad more heat so your fan behavior might be slightly different, but that's about it.

    Right. The TDP of the 2 core models are rated up to 35 W, 45 W for the 4 core, and 55 W for the extreme series.

    but it seems to me that the need to upgrade the cooling system.
    I have a e6420 CPU ATG, i7 intel hd GPU + 3000, installed 10 GB ram + 256 ssd + 1T hdd. optical drive rolled)
