    My current setup
    2.4 GHz t8300 Core 2 duo processor
    4 GB Ram pc5300
    320 GB 5400 RPM HDD
    1920x1200 screen
    Nvidia 8600M Gt 256MB
Vista Home Premium 32 bit w/ service pack 1

All of my games tend to lag in frame rate and I am willing to upgrade my laptop. Will I be able to upgrade to an Nvidia 9 series?

No, because the graphics chip is (n/m it is proprietary) in proprietary connection. And why don't you just turn down the resolution? Then it won't lag. Just curious...what games are you playing?

the dell xps 1530 does have an upgradeable graphics card. (Its not soldered to the motherboard)
Unfortunately the 1530 uses proprietary (Dell/Quanta) graphics cards, so you can only pick between the 8400mgs and the 8600mGt.
Those are your only two options.
Your 8600mGT is the fastest card the xps 1530 can take, so you cannot upgrade your gpu any further.
