Which do you think would be better? I mainly game, so CAD performance and other things aren't of interest or concern to me.
I'm considering the W7170M (M390X) for its $75 less cost than a 970M (~$200 vs 275) But it has a lot of disadvantages including no OC ability, higher TDP, runs hotter, performs worse, so do you think that $75 makes too much of a difference?

Depends on application, in vulkan games such as Doom, the AMD performs better, to answer your question, it depends on you, do you need more than a GTX 970M performance?

If not, you can go with the AMD.

Else you can go for the GTX 970M, however doing Overclock will drasticly increase its TDP.

Not necessarily, all I do is play indie games and GTA V, probably the new fallout when it comes out, so probably 970M

new fallout will likely be NVIDIA optimized, so yeah. 970M it is.

All I can tell is that fan control does NOT work on M6700 when W7170m is installed!! I have also tried HD 8970m, no luck.

I was lazy and low on cash, so I picked up a 3930K T3600 for under $150, and shoved a 1080 ti in it for lulz

where the hell did you get a 3930K based workstation for under 150USD?

performancewise that thing is around a 8700K rig.

Ebay, its actually closer to $175 thinking about it now, but put in an offer for $120 shipped for a whole T3600, and $55 for a 3930K

Man, I wish it was a 8700K performance, but its just under a 6700K, which I already have shipping out to me

And, I'm just assuming its going to work, I don;t actually have it in my possession right now, and being stuck on a i5 3550 and a Fury X isn't very fun *cough* extreme stutter or low FPS in minecraft of all things *cough*

Pretty sure a 6700K won't reach over 1.2k cinebench points.

    unless we talk LN2

If you have decent watercooling ~5ghz and 1.3k cinebench points is rather easy.

Cinebench is just a synthetic test, it means really nothing to me, all I play are games and any rendering done is by my GPU for editing

    3930K 10.10PTS vs 6700K 10.14PTS (Stock+Turbo boost) And, I can OC my 6700K on Z170 vs the locked C600 chipset

This is interesting, so that basciially means that there is a new instruction that lets game run more efficiently. Someone should investigate which instruction that is.

Skylake (Coffee lake in that test) is able to process things faster? That would be my guess
