Hello all,
I've got a Dell Precision M4600 that's about two months old. The specification was put together by a colleague who (mistakenly!) opted for the standard screen;
39.6cm (15.6in) High Definition (1366x768) LED-backlit LCD Panel
The GPU chosen was;
1 Graphics card : AMD FirePro M5950 Mobility Pro Graphics with 1GB GDDR5
I'm interested in the possibility of buying a replacement screen with a decent resolution and replacing it, I've looked online and there are some companies offering the 1920x1080 screens (in Gloss and Matt it seems) for a reasonable price (sub £100). I've looked in the service manual for replacing the screen etc and it looks simple enough, am I right in thinking this or are there some "gotchas" involved?

I've done a bit of research on-line and the screen I'd like is ;
39.6cm (15.6) FHD (1920x1080): Dell Ultrasharp, wide-view, anti-glare, LED-backllit
I've also spoken to our Dell rep and I've had a quote for Dell Part DELL-3XJDG which according to Google is the 1366x768 screen I already have, yet they insist it's correct for the FHD screen I'm after... -
Nobody got any pointers on this then?

I've done an upgrade on one Dell Latitude and had the panel out of my M4400. The only thing I'd be concerned about is the back-light connectors, but since you are going from LED to LED that's not likely to be an issue.
Some things to look out for are:
- The electronics under the 'do not touch' labels on the panel are delicate. Be careful there.
- The panel is made of thin pieces of glass, and it's easy to put too much force on the bezel when you are popping it out. Make sure you know which way the hooks are oriented before you pry on them. On my M4400, the side hooks were on the back plate and pointed away from the panel (had to move the bezel outwards to release) while the ones on the top and bottom were on the bezel and pointed the other way (had to move the bezel towards the panel to release them). -
I've taken the bezel off to check the connector location on the back of the display panel - I followed the instructions in the owners/service manual and it was quite tricky at first but I got there in the end. Hopefully the replacement screen is arriving today so I'll report back once I'm done. -
Did you get your screen replaced? Did you have any trouble?
I have an m4600 that I would like to do exactly this on ...
