I'm debating on buying Dell Precision M6300 or Dell Precision M90:
The major differences:
processor: M6300 has Intel® Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.20GHz 4M L2 Cache, 800MHz), while M90 has Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor T7400 (2.16GHz/667MHz/4MB) -- how much of a difference between 800MHz and 667MHz?
Graphics card: M6300 has NVIDIA® Quadro FX 1600M 512mb (256MB dedicated) TurboCache, while the M90 has NVIDIA® Quadro FX 2500M, 512MB (dedicated) -- how visible is the difference here?
I will be using this computer for running CAD packages (SolidWorks and Pro/E)...

The FX 2500M is a more powerful graphics card than the FX 1600M card. The processors are similar in speed, however, if the CAD packages you use are FSB heavy, then the T7500 may pull ahead a fair bit, with its larger FSB and slightly faster clockspeed. Are your CAD packages particularly processor dependant?
-
yes, the cad packages are very processor dependent (and RAM dependent).
Unfortunately Dell doesn't offer the newer M6300 model with the stronger FX 2500 graphics card!!
In your opinion, which combination will perform better:
M6300 Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.20GHz 4M L2 Cache, 800MHz) with NVIDIA® Quadro FX 1600M 512mb (256MB dedicated) TurboCache
or
M90 Core 2 Duo Processor T7400 (2.16GHz/667MHz/4MB) with NVIDIA® Quadro FX 2500M, 512MB (dedicated) ?? -
If the CAD packages are both graphics intensive and processor intensive, then both notebooks have their advantages and disadvantages. I would go for the one that simply cheaper.
Please don't cross-post on the forums, please. Thank you:

both models come out to be just about the same price! In this case do you have a recommendation?
sorry for the cross post, I'm new in the forum and was under the impression that the message was relevant for the different subject headings -- didn't know the forum rules, and will refrain from cross posting... -
Well, its turned out to be quite a choice. Personally, I have no preference over one than the other. Both seem to be very good machines. If I had to say, then I would go for the M6300, largely because its a newer machine, has a slightly faster processor and has better upgrade potential. However, before making the decision, I think you should wait for the opinions of some other members.

which doesn't seem to be happening...
personally, id wait for the graphics in the 6300 to be a FX 2600 and totally buy it -

Why not go for the HP 8710w? It's an all-around superior laptop in my opinion. We reviewed it here:

I just got the M90 from dell refurbed for $2100 with the following spec.
T7200 (4MB L2)
4 GB of RAM
120 GB HDD
NVIDIA Geforce 2500M
I think it is the best system money can buy..
I use the following application:
SolidEdge, Solidwork, ADOBE CS3, etc... -
Am facing a similar dilemma...which one to buy
M90
Core 2 duo 2 Ghz, 667Mhz FSB
nvidia quadro 3500M
2 GB RAM
or
M6300
Core 2 duo 2.4 Ghz, 800Mhz FSB
nvidia quadro 1600M
4 GB RAM
i use solidworks,alias and photohop...kindly suggest -
I read a review of the HP 8710w on mcadonline suggesting that it is the fastest machine around
http://www.mcadonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=471&Itemid=73
but it appears that the Dell M6300 is available with a faster processor - a Core2Duo X7900.

The HP machine is only available with a Core2Due T7500, but I thought only the HP machine was based on the Santa Rosa platform, but I've now realised I don't understand quite what is happening with the latest laptop technologies, and what this means in the real-world (Computer Aided Design (CAD) with Pro/Engineer) I'd be grateful if someone would explain.

HP 8710W is available with a T7800 (2.6Ghz).
shaurya the M6300 would be faster, but the M90 would be better for gaming. -
I've just spoken to a man at HP and he says only the T7500 is available in the UK but it might be available here in the next 3 to 6 months. What are HP playing at?
