I know Dell offers the option of a backlit keyboard on the Studio 15 laptops. The one I just got doesn't have it, just the standard. Can I replace my standard keyboard with a backlit if I wanted to?![]()
-
Yes, you can. Just buy the backlit keyboard off eBay and swap the keyboards. The Studio 15 BIOS has the functionality built-in, and the QuickSet software installs hotkey functionality for enabling the light (Fn + right arrow).
-
Yep. I've done this exact procedure to my two Studio 15's, an old 1535 and my current 1555.
-
Thanks for the quick replies. I'll check ebay for sure!
-
If you can't find one there, check out parts-people.com and resaleremarketing.net, although I think they only have the 1535/1537 models in stock, not the 1555 or 1557.
-
Could anyone tell me where I can buy a backlit keyboard for a 1555 that has a UK layout?
I have looked on ebay and have drawn a blank
-
why do u want the uk layout? The american one is much easier to use.. good thing that i got a laptop with an american layout although i'm living in the UK.. way better than the UK layout which is awkward..
-
Because it's his opinion and he's entitled to it.
-
I am so used to the UK layout now that I'd be lost without the @ and £ signs in the places they're in...
Why do you reckon the US one is better? -
Because sean473 learned how to use the US keyboard before the UK keyboard, and is thus more familiar with the US style. Since sean473 is shinning example of humanity, everyone else must be like him and prefer the US layout over the UK layout.
I mean seriously, how else can you possibly make the statement that one keyboard layout is better than the other? By the same logic, hereby pronounce American English to be superior to English English. And French. -
No way American english is better than Canadian english. You lie, Lithus!
-
I said nothing of Canadian English, eh.
-
Nobody does that here, you know.
-
You would say that.
-
lol... anway, fact is the US keyboard is certainly better but i don't know where your'e gonna get the pound sign and why would you even need it unless you're were doing some acounting or something?
-
Yeah, just like you never need the dollar sign unless you're an accountant. Since I'm a computer engineer, I've luckily never, ever had to push the keys "Shift" and "4" simultaneously. Thank god.
-
You're confusing the concepts of fact and opinion.
-
Why does everyone think that Canadians punctuate every sentence with "eh"? We don't do it!
-
Does wireless travel through the walls of your log cabins?
-
Sorry, we actually live in igloos.
Jesus were do you guys read this stuff?
-
It's just a joke. Nobody is that stupid. And yes, there are Canadians who have that accent that Lithus is making fun of.
-
It's not a joke. We really do live in igloos. When there's no snow, we build wigwams and conduct navy exercises in wooden canoes.
-
Well, we Spaniards live in caves, ride donkeys and our keyboard layout is definitely funnier... "ñ"
-
LOL ok stop making jokes insulting your countries.. this topic is becomming very not useful... motion to close thread plz.
-
You're the one who started it, with your "US layout is clearly superior" crap.
Anyway, stampede12, try sending an email to fabio_mejia[at]dell.com. He's a great guy, and he'll know how to set you up with a part order, and I assume he can get you the UK layout backlit keyboard.
