    Hi,

Having just bought a 27" dell u2711 I found I could not use the native resolution.

I have read on many sites about HDMI been limited to 1920x1080 by either graphics cards or the Dell U2711 monitor, even on the dell website itself.

I can confirm that no such limitation exists in the Dell U2711 when using HDMI as the input. The monitor reports the maximum as 1920x1080 however you can get around this.

    1. I created a custom resolution using the graphics card control panel.

Problem is now that it wont show in display properties.

    2. Install powerstrip and use it to set the new resolution.

Once powerstrip has set it this resolution will appear in display properties and powerstrip is no longer needed.

My issue now is that the maximum my graphics adaptor supports is 2560x1270@50hz with an Intel HD3000. Anyone know if it can go beyond this.

    Thanks

Intel HD2000/HD3000 IGP does not support above 1920x1200 @60Hz output via HDMI (and it only supports single link DVI, too). Only DisplayPort on the Intel IGP supports higher resolutions/refresh.

Dell U2711 does not support above 1920x1200@60Hz input via HDMI. Only via DL-DVI and DisplayPort.

Both are specs listed on their respective websites (admittedly, Intel's limitation is harder to find).

HOWEVER... ask around the sony notebook forums here :) There are ways around it (though not anywhere approaching 60Hz refresh).

I'm able to get 2048x1152 @ 60hz on my monitor via HDMI from both my desktop and laptop without any tweaks, it just appears in Windows display properties. It's nowhere near your resolution, but it's higher than 1080p.

    Hi,

the thing is many forums are saying the same thing about hdmi, and they are wrong.

    I am currently displaying 2560x1270 @ 50hz over hdmi with hd3000.

what I cant do is get hd3000 to go below 50hz, if I can get it to 40 I can get 1440 and be at 100% native.

    Regards.

Get yourself a video card! I got the Evga 570 HC SC which can support 3 monitors. Black Friday Purchase of a Dell 30" U3011 monitor and it works full 2560 x 1600 resolution on the supplied Dell DVI cable. Plus I have another 1920 x 1200 Samsung 25.5 monitor hooked up.

I'm assuming his dell is a laptop, so he can't just get a video card.

    Yes, cant upgrade video card.

What makes no sense it that 50hz cant be achieved at 2560x1440, as 2560x1270 can be achieved while 1600x900 is going to the internal screen at the same time.

Resurrecting and old thread because I recently purchased a q271. I too couldn''t drive my clevo w110er to q271's native resolution until I found this thread. decworld provided me some hope. I was also limited to 2560x1270 @ 50hz until I upgraded my HDMI cable to HDMI 1.4. And bam, I was able to get my clevo to output 2560x1440 @ 55hz. Hopefully others will find this post useful.

This is driving me nuts. I have a Dell U2713HM. I get full resolution (2560x1440@60) when I run my desktop. But when I plug in my laptop (ASUS UX31A), using a mini-HDMI to HDMI adapter (both should be 1.4 compatible), i still can't get pass 1920x1080@60. I tried modifying my EDID, and override it (works, I can set the resolution to 2560x1440@35, but the monitor complains about it not being able to output anything over 1920x1080@60. Is there anyway around this? Can I go HDMI->DisplayPort and get the full resolution?

    Any help is appreciated.

For everyone, providing you have an HDMI 1.4a output on your laptop, get a 1.4a certified cable, aka dual link hdmi cable, 90 percent of those cables you can buy are not dual link. I have a gtx 660m in my G75 it has hdmi 1.4a and with a dual link cable i can run greater than 1080p resolutions.

Try using the DVI input on the monitor instead. According to this thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/602724-success-2560x1440-support-new-vpc-z2-dell-u2711.html), at least for the U2711, the HDMI port is limited to 1920 but the DVI port is not.
