    Hey guys,

Looking for a bit of advice here. My Vostro 1500 monitor died about 2 months ago, luckily I have an external monitor so I'm still able to use it. By "died", I don't mean the whole screen isn't working, the image is still there, but it's really dark, if I shine a torch on it I can see the image. This leads me to believe that the backlight inverter is broken, rather than the whole screen.
I rung up Dell and they remain quite resolute that the entire monitor needs to be replaced, which they'll charge me ~£160 for! My local PC repair shop has quoted me ~£50 to repair it.
I've done some PC tinkering in the past, just basic things like cleaning and replacing a hard drive, but I've never done anything like changing a backlight inverter. Does anyone have any experience with this? Even better, experience with a Vostro 1500? Is it even possible to buy a backlight inverter for Dell laptops? Or have I got completely the wrong end of the stick and the £160 Dell repair is the only way to go? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Cheers!
