I want a college laptop for myself. I have decided that the Vostro V13 is a good enough laptop that would accommodate all of my computer needs, at a great price too ($400 + tax/shipping).

However, as I read more and more reviews, I am seeing a significant number of Dell customers who have bought this laptop, and experienced broken screens. They all say that they didn't do anything to abuse the laptop. Moreover, Dell refuses to replace the screen under the standard limited warranty.

This is a major red flag for me, as I want my college laptop to last me a long time. I could purchase the 3 year warranty and shell out more cash, but I'm a college student, let's be honest.

Can someone comment on this issue?

My Latitude 13 has been going for 3+ months, though I am particularly careful with my laptops..
