Found out (from this forum) that my Dell XPS had a second HD port so when I upgraded the ram I got a SSD that I figured I would just pop in.

Drive insertion went fine but when I start up windows it never installs the drive and it doesn't show up anywhere, including my BIOS. I've tried to reinsert the drive several times with no luck. The BIOS is set to ACHE currently. It almost seems like the second drive bay is disabled or something. I'm running windows 7.

This is the first time I've every installed/upgraded anything on a laptop to any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks ahead of time.

Are you SATA drivers and chipset drivers up to date? Also, are you sure physical installation went well? It would be a shame to have to RMA the drive but it seems rare for SSDs to arrive DOA, let alone fail.

As far as I know they are. I downloaded the recommended stuff on Dell's support site. I've tried doing a physical reinstall several times and I'm pretty sure it's going alright. The drive came with a spacer that I didn't use but I assumed it would only be used if my 2nd HD slot didnt have the bracket to mount the new drive to.

Ended up swapping my original drive to the second bay and putting the ssd into the 1st bay and it worked fine!
