It's an older laptop and I'm sure the controller is SATA-150. Dell sells replacement drives that are SATA-150. But SATA 3G drives are bigger and cheaper. SATA is supposed to be backwards compatible but I know there are issues w/ some chipsets. Anyone know if I can put in a SATA 3G drive?

    Thanks!

for notebooks , only 2.5 inch SATA 2 drives are the max u can get... and the best one now is 500GB Hitachi 7K500 7200rpm drive... it will work with ur SATA1 system and should still have excellent performance... u might have to wait a few years for 2.5inch SATA 3 drives...
