The only company that is actually going to sell new M1730 GPUs is Dell, it is a Dell-only version of the GPU.

You might want to check eBay or other auction sites for used nVidia GPUs, and also see if your laptop was affected by the recent nVidia class action lawsuit (for which you might get a new PC or some money back) if your GPU failed.

But if you're looking at a dead GPU and a dead motherboard...you might as well buy a new PC. :(

    Thanks

Ive been on to Dell who quoated $3000 for the card but now they say $1,000
I guess Im looking for an after market option cos $3500 for a mother board and graphic card gave me a real fright.

I think I will still try and pick up a second hand unit for parts but if I have to buy a new machine it will NOT be a Dell.

by the way my name Greg Ross B.

As Greg stated, you should check if your M1730 was affected by the Nvidia chips. I believe the GeForce 8 chips were affected but not the GeForce 9 chips.

With a bad motherboard and bad GPU, you are probably better off investing in a newer laptop..

There is an m1730 motherboard for sale in the marketplace, at a good price.

Not true. Other companies have made their own Dell compatible version of this GPU.

Really? Please point me in the general direction of any vendor of video cards that are compatible with the M1730: I'd love to update it eventually... it's OK for now, but in a year or so, it would beat buying a whole new machine, if I could almost double the video card performance.

(p.s. does it go without saying that an M1730 is a gaming notebook?)
