I bought my laptop like 3 years ago and it has a core duo t2400 installed in it. I am considering to replace it with an Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile T5750 2 GHz Processor SLA4D. However, I have a few questions :

    1) T5750 is also an M-socket cpu, but it was removed from a gateway. Does it cause any compatibility issues?
    2) Does it worth it?

    thanks

I think the T2700 is the highest socket m with 667MHZ frequency for the PM945 chipset, i might be wrong though.Maybe the T6XXX is the highest you could go.

The T5750 is not a compatible processor - That is a socket P processor

The core duo T2400 you have is comparable to a core 2 duo T5200.
The T2x00 processors like the T2500, T2600 and T2700 are about 30% slower per Mhz clock speed than the core 2 duo processors (T5x00 and T7x00)
So a T2700 at 2.33Ghz is not the same speed as a T7600 at 2.33Ghz. The T7600 is faster at all clock speeds, and supports virtualization technology which the T2x00 processors do not.

The E1505 uses socket M processors
It is only worth while to upgrade to:
    T5300, T5500, T5600, T7200, T7400 and T7600

You will find that the T7200 and T7400 are the best bang for the buck processors for the E1505
The T7600 is much to expensive.

I recommend using I8KFANGUI with your laptop. It is a fan control software designed for the inspiron series of laptops.
I have a T7400 in my E1505 with I8KFANGUI, and my cpu temperatures never go above 145F

    Question for K-TRON:

Is the T7600 still considered a powerful cpu compared to today's generation of core2duo cpus?

    Thank you

Yes, the T7600 is still a fast processor. It is equivalent in performance to a P8400, but uses a bit more power to do the same processing.

If your interested in downgrading, I can trade you my T7400 and some cash for that T7600

Thanks for the info, I'll hang on to my T7600 in that case :)

Thank you very much for your reply. I think I am going to go with T7200, because it is more affordable than the other two. Do you have any suggestions about memory? I currently have Kingston 2GB (2 x 1GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) and want to replace it with a 2x2GB.

When I installed a 2 x2 Gb PC5300 memory kit in my laptop, Windows only showed 2Gb in my computer
I did not check what Task manager read, I kinda wish I did.

Some here have claimed that 3.1Gb of memory is read under a 32 bit operating system.
I am inclined to say that my version of Windows XP Sp2, didnt read memory amounts properly. It could be because I disable windows update. But my system memory amounts would not change, whether I had 1gb or 2gb of memory installed. I am referring to the readout given when you right click the my computer icon.

Oh yeah, at first when I upgraded the memory to 4gb, I thought the system wouldnt boot with 4gb of memory installed. It turns out that it takes the system about 3 minutes on Boot to detect the amount of memory changed.

I initially powered the system down, cause I thought the system was refusing to boot. Later, when I actually let it load, it recognized the memory and worked fine afterwards. The Bios did read 4Gb, but windows saw only 2gb, so I put the 4gb kit in my lenovo T61, and put the 2 x 1Gb kit back in my dell e1505
