    Any 2 x 2 GB DDR2 module will work.

best place to buy price wise is ebay
You can also try crucial.com (I think). Their ram is guaranteed for compatibility.

i have an older laptop (inspiron 8500) and also upgraded from 512 to 1g dimms just a few weeks ago. was told it's a good idea to go with a well-known brand, particularly being that memory is so cheap, so i went with kingston. ordered from laptopmemoryupgrade.com...had good prices and item arrived quickly. glad i upgraded, definitely notice a little improvement.

You don't need to go to Dell to buy your upgrade, unless of course you want to pay extra.

Any brand will work. In your case you need PC2-5300 hence DDR2. You can go installing PC2-6400 but it will still downclock to 667MHz speeds.

Just go for any Crucial, Kingston, Corsair or similar, it will work fine.
