    Hello people,
I just bought a Dell Precision 7720 (i7-6820 / Quadro P3000 / FHD Lcd display) and I would like to upgrade the screen to a UHD (4K) type. I noticed that there are a multitude of similar models on the market (china, ebay, panelock...). I still can not get this information in a precise way: which screen model could work in the upgrade.
In Panelok site I found these 4k models:
    B173ZAN01.0 - AUO
    N173DSE-G31 - Innolux
    B173ZAN01.1 - AUO
    B173ZAN01.2 - AUO
    B173ZAN01.3 - AUO
    LQ173D1JW33 - SHARP
    LQ173D1JW31 - SHARP
    B173ZAN01.4 - AUO
Apparently I should also change the cable, which is easier to find.
Anyone know or has anyone tried this?
    Thanks!

Dell and Alienware from OEM use SHARP and AU Optronics UHD panels.

    AU Optronics B173ZAN01.2 will work
    SHARP LQ173D1JW31 will work.

Your choice. I like AUO Panels better.

4K eDP cable part number is K2M54.
This is for non 3D capable panels ;)

Dont order the cable as it is LVDS not eDP. I was tired when I wrote the reply. I will find an eDP part number shortly.

If you did not order the panel, order the B173ZAN01.0 as it is brighter. Both will work. ;)

Ok, so I'll order the 1.0 and the cable indicated. As soon as it arrives (this may take a while) I'll post the result here. thank you again michealscott!

Technically all the AU Optronics panels you listed will work. The 7720 has been upgraded to 4K with the B173ZAN01.0 panel successfully and is fully working and I'd like you to have 100% success rate instead of having an 99% chance ;)

The B173ZAN01.0 is also brighter and extra brightness is not a bad thing to have.

@Shink0 has upgraded his 7720 to 4K using the B173ZAN01.0 panel.

Also, be careful as there is always an element of risk involved and I can't and will not be held responsible for damage to your laptop but I'm sure you already know that seeing that you'll be upgrading the panel yourself.

Hi Michealscott, I just realized that my FHD LCD has a 30-pin connector ... I already ordered the new UHD LCD and the cable. I should assume that the motherboard of my computer also has a 30-pin connector, which would make it impossible to upgrade. Is this right?

    Hi again,
Actually I saw some photos of the DC02C00AL00 03GPF4 cable (which should be the same as my current one) and realized that the connector that goes on the motherboard has 40 pins ... :)

Hi Micheal Scott, finally I did the screen upgrade! Everything went well and the screen quality is fantastic. It's super bright and quite saturated (I need to solve this). I would like to thank you for your help.
I will post soon a video showing the upgrade process.

    Hi people,

I have recently bought a second hand Dell Precision 7720 with 17.3" HD 1600x900 Anti Glare Lcd display. As I am very unhappy whit this display, I wonder if it would be possible to upgrade my screen to a UHD (4K) type.

Can someone please confirm that buying the following parts will allow me to make such upgrade?

    6GXDN cable
    B173ZAN01.0 LCD

    Many Thanks

    Hi Kyle

It is difficult for me to explain exactly, but for some reason my laptop screen strains my eyes a lot. I don’t have this problem with my external monitor or my company laptop. My work requires spending many hours in front of the monitor. I hope that the upgrade will help my eyes.

By the way, I have checked my display spec:
Monitor Name: Chi Mei [Unknown Model: CMN1745]
    Monitor Name (Manuf): 173FGA [DELL P/N: XVC10]

I am planning to buy the below parts:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Dell...m=253853686065&_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/17-3-AUO...m3613e9661b:g:ungAAOSw32lYvX6x&frcectupt=true

Can you guys confirm that this will do the job?

Um. Fair argument that 4k isn't done in 2019 ether.

Got one here and its currently in 1920X1080 mode. Likely to stay that way for some time.
When sufficient software is sorted out for 4k then yes..... but maybe not for 2019.

Apologies that I'm slightly late to the party on this one. I have a Precision 7720 with AU Optronics HD screen. I bought an AU Optronics 4K screen B173ZAN01.0 (went for the .0 revision, due to the 400cd/m2). I also had to buy the 6GXDN cable.

All was good in the first 6 hours of use. Then suddenly the screen had a load of vertical lines down it, flashing, etc. I checked the cables and reseated them all. Everything was then ok - until it happened again. The issues persisted through to the BIOS screen, suggesting that it was the monitor/cable at fault.

    A few questions:

    - Do these monitors need any specific Dell customizations to work, or do they "just work" from the manufacturer?
    - Has anyone else experienced issues like me, or did I just get a dodgy monitor?

I notice that Sharp IGZO is Dell's choice on their configuration menu. However, this thread suggests that the AUO screen should work.

    Any help gratefully received.

    Tim
