I have replaced my old drive wdc2500bevs with seagate st9250421as and can not have it work it in sata2 mode. There is no jumper on the back of the drive.Matrix storage manager shows my hd sata1 and even i try many things re-installing vista and reinstalling driver still same.Any recomendation would really help. Thanks in advanced for any replies.

you really should not worry about this.
No mechanical laptop harddrive can max out the SATA 1 interface, which is 150mb/sec
Your seagate drive can not come close to the maximum speed of teh sata 1 interface.
Thus even if your harddrive was being recognized as running sata 2 (sata 300), the drive would run exactly the same speed.

    burst rate really means nothing.
Can you post a screenshot of the performance of the drive. Preferably hdtune or hdtach.

Your motherboard may only be able to run sata 1 drives, but the only way of knowing is if you upload an image of the "info" tab in hdtune.
It will tell you the interface speed your motherboard supports and the interface speed your drive is currently running in.

A lot of laptops still only run sata 1.

Your HD Tune results are good (normal). You have AHCI enabled, so naturally INFO is screwed up.
T8100, so your notebook would at least have the ICH8 controller, which does support SATA-II. You can check out PC Wizard 2008, and see what it says about your HDD. It could be that the motherboard, or BIOS is capped to SATA-I. As said, SATA-II is not going to make a difference in performance, and may increase power consumption.

A.T. PC Wizard, its not in native SATA mode. Dunno why, but it is not going to limit performance in anyway.

Oh yeah. That's fine. Honestly don't bother about SATA 1/2, IDE etc

Changing these modes won't affect performance in anyway. Your drive is already at its peak.
