    I have a Dell Studio XPS 1640 laptop with a P8600 (2.4 G, 25W) cpu. I am wondering if the T9900 (3.06G, 35W) could be substituted socket wise and if the existing cooling system can handle the extra 10 watts.

    Also the existing graphics card is a ati mobolity radeon hd 3670...would a 4670 card be better or is there a soemthing better?

    Thanks.

    For starters;

    Your graphics card is soldered onto the motherboard. Upgrading up would mean changing out the entire motherboard.

    Yes you should be able to go to any 1066 FSB Core 2 Duo. Your cooling system should be able to handle 35 watt processors. I don't recommend the upgrade, many benchmarks show that "extra speed" and cache only make a difference in benchmarks and not in real world use/video games, UNLESS you are rendering.

    What upgrade would you suggest for a performance boost...SSD? Of course, a new computer but that might be the cheapest.

    I mean what do you do primarily for your computer? If you game, you might want to sell the SXPS and go for like a Sager. There's a nice Sager for like 1299 with new SB i7, GTX 460M, 8 GB RAM, 15.6" FHD LED screen.

    Appears you can run a dualIDA overclock to get your P8600-2.4 up to 2.53Ghz.

    Agreed with other comments, consider a SB i7 upgrade if want more performance.

    I use it for multiscreen video editing 25% but rest is multitasking.
