Alright fellas it's time to upgrade my system and i've narrowed down the three core components CPU, Mobo, and Memory. Here's what i'm buying:

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819115003

MSI P35 Neo2-FR LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813130098

    G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231098

Ok here's my question both the CPU and motherboard run at 1066mhz FSB memory that runs that clock speed is expensive. Can I get away with using PC-6400 memory even though it's clocked at 800mhz?

This is for my gaming rig so i'm going after performance but at the same time I don't want to spend crazy money if i'm not going to yield the benefits.

Total Cost for this upgrade is $438.88

Wrong forum! Where is a Mod when you need one! :p

Seriously am no expert on this but I don't think FSB and RAM speed are tied together, I went to Dell they have 1066 FSB w/677RAM, good luck! :)

That CPU won't really benefit from the faster memory, but if you ever stick a Penryn in that motherboard that might be different. Of course, you'd probably get more benefit from getting a P35 motherboard with DDR3, it's hard to tell just yet though.

By the way, the Q6600 can be had for less than $300 now, quad core at the same speed for not a whole lot of premium.
