    Just wondering

    How much is the difference between the powwr consumption of a laptop and a desktop?

    Since the laptop only uses one power supply and normally a desktop will need at least three(CPU, Monitor and speakers)? Is there any significant difference?

    Also how much can i undervolt my laptop?(please give me a software, do not know any)

    Genarally speaking a laptop uses less power. Laptops are an all in one solution and are made to be energy efficient, more so than desktops.

    It depends on what kind of laptop vs. what kind of desktop, but the laptop pretty much always takes the cake.

    Don't know any software for undervolting. I never bother to undervolt.

    BTW, most powerconsumption with desktops comes from the desktop itself, not screen and speakers.
    Most desktops come with PSU that supply between 300 to 400 watts. Gaming PC's are a whole different ballgame. My gaming PC has a 750 Watt PSU and I know people who have 1200 Watt PSU's. But you need it to power two 8800 Ultra's in SLI.
    Energy effiency doesn't matter for a desktop.

    Should say somewhere in the manual in the tech section. But I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's not going to be a huge figure.

    So I can say that a laptop uses less than a third of a normal desktop??

    This is definiatly a per user question, every persons computer is different and so can there laptop be different.

    laptops tho by nature are low power devices because they are made to run cool and off a battery. This means using as little power as possible. A PC can totally match that tho if built to run like that. Most people that build PC's in my experience build for performance tho and that usually means big video cards, overclock cpu's and that means alot of power draw.

    As for how to know how many watts your laptops uses, well there is a piece of equipment I have that does that you plug it into the wall, then plug the laptop in and read it, its like 20$ on newegg.com I forget the name of it off hand right now. However for the sake of your question I can tell you that you can just look at your laptops power block and read it off there and you will know the MAX it uses, so you know it cant be more than that. My C90S for instance has a 90w adapter so we know it uses 90w max.

    Also dont be fooled about desktops, if it has a 500w power supply that doesnt mean it uses 500w of power, thats just the max power output the power supply can deliver. You can have a 500w PSU in a computer and it only uses 300w load, and 50w idle. Then futher into that matter you have to look at the PSU efficantcy a good PSU has 80% or higher meaning how well it turns the power from the wall into power for you computer. This is why there is a big differnce from a cheap PSU (generally anything that comes in a prebuilt computer) and a high grade after market model. You can save money by upgrading your PSU just because your power bill will be lower (also your computer will probably last longer, yet another story)

    You can use Notebook Hardware Control to undervolt.

    You can undervolt PC's too, usually right thru the bios. yes the adapter, you may have to do some math it may just give the voltage and amps, multiply them together to get the watts.
