Basically my laptop is getting old for gaming and I want to use my desktop while on the couch, with the desktop down on the floor by the couch. I've been looking for a way of controlling my desktop through my laptop, none of which seem particularly suitable for gaming, so I was wondering if there are any external monitors available to buy that have a mount like a laptop so they can comfortably sit on my lap. Any help appreciated.

If your laptop has Bluetooth, Bluetooth generally offers a better connection than RF. I've got one of these for my HPTC. It works pretty well at about 10'. Even the Media buttons work in Linux and Lenovo seems to discount them down to $30 fairly often.
