(I wasn't sure where to post this, I hope I chose the right forum ^^; )

Recently, when I boot my laptop and I get logged in, it takes an unreasonable amout of time for the taskbar and my desktop items to load. All I can see is my wallpaper. It doesn't freeze or anything because I can still use ctrl+alt+del, it just doesn't load. After about half a minute it does, though. Does anyone know what could be the problem?

And for the record, my laptop is only a few days old and it used to work perfectly fine, this problem started to occur only yesterday.

    Thanks in advance =)

I've done both a virus scan (using CA security center) and a spyware scan (using adaware and spybot), but nothing turned up.

And I updated my drivers a few days ago, so that can't be it. =)

i got many issues sometimes in updating graphic driver. my desktop would be very very slow performing refreshing. using driver cleaner or completedly removing any previous driver/software BEFORE applying new drivers would make sure that there will be no conflict in overriding old dll files

try to roll back whatever drivers u updated one by one and to see which one was the culprit

    cheers ...

I did remove previous drivers before installing new ones. And I really don't think my driver update could be the problem, seeing as how I downloaded it from the Asus website. It's just the normal one that came with my laptop (but I re-installed it because I accidently removed it), no fancy ones from laptopvideo2go or anything.

What kind of laptop is it? If it's a Dell or HP or other mainstream laptop, you're best off formatting it before you get comfortable, because they come with a lot of "bloatware," and even if you uninstall all of it, it still leaves junk behind. It could be causing problems.

How many processes do you have? Do Start, Run, msconfig, hit Enter, then go over to the Startup tab and uncheck the unnecessary software that is starting with Windows.

An Asus F3Jc... I've already gotten quite comfortable. XD In my opinion there wasn't much bloatware. =) And I'd hate having to re-install WoW for the third time, it takes so much time.

I'll try unchecking some processes. Although I wonder why that could be the problem, because they're about the same as a few days ago when I wasn't having this problem...

Thanks for the help so far!

Like I said, I tried unchecking some processes but it didn't have any effect.

I found the evil doer, however! It was Diskeeper. I remember having downloaded it right before this problem started occuring so I uninstalled it, and now my desktop loads instantly!

I wonder why it caused that, though.

If Diskeeper was starting up before explorer.exe (which is what makes the icons, start bar, and so on show up), then getting rid of Diskeeper would explain why your problem was fixed. :)
