I have Acer Aspire 5670. It works great, until I upgraded to Windows Vista Home Premium, it works fine..but the RAM.......
So I decided to upgrade my RAM. My laptop had DDR2-533, the "default" RAM. Then I put in two modules of 2x1GB Corsair ValueSelect DDR2-667. Nothing happens.
The power light comes up, the video card fan runs...But after a minute or so, the video card fan stops spinning. Nothing on the screen, AT ALL. I put the old RAM back in, same thing. Nothing happens.
Am I missing something here? Did I do something wrong? As far as I know, on my COMPUTER, whenever I upgrade or something, and nothing happens. All I had to do was to reset the CMOS. But does my laptop have that?
I desperately need help. I have a project to turn in today, and even worse that's in 1-2 hours, I haven't had it printed. Basically, my laptop won't boot.![]()
HELP!!

You might of short circuited something when you opened up the notebook.
Does the HD spin when you boot? -
HD did not spin at all as well.
How'd I short circuited the system? -
If you opened it, you could of been holding a static charge(if you are wearing a fleece type of clothing, wool socks on carpet, cold day in Winter, etc.), and upon touching the delicate motherboard, short circuiting it. However this is very rare and doesn't happen often.

One thing that i found works sometimes when ram doesnt want to work is to rub over the the contacts with an eraser. This remove all fat and whatever might be causeing problems there.
Also try booting with just piece of ram in the slot and the other empty. Also when both ram slots are empty and you turn it on does the bios screen show up?
Sounds like you didnt do anything wrong. Keep trying. -
Nothing shows up on the screen. I tried everything, one ram, one slot. Other slot. Then different ram, one slot. Other slot. Nothing happens.
Nothing just shows up on the screen. My video card fan runs, then it stops running.
I didn't get in contact with my motherboard that could have static charges.
If the short cicurited is the problem, what can I do?
But if it's not, what are the other ways to get it working?
I appreciate the replies, but I need more. -
I dont think there is much you can do. If it got short circuited then its broken and needs to be replaced. Still got warranty for it?
Sometimes a nice smack on the side gets things working again(j/k)

Acer support suck. Their website is very slow.
I'm not too sure if I have warranty because I bought this laptop thru Newegg last September of 2006. -
Could it be the cables to each parts be disconnected? My DVD ROM would not eject... HD would not spin... Video Card spins for a minute then it stops, but nothing on screen.
Is that actually short circuited? -
Here is what you can try.
1. Make sure the memory modules are completly installed.
2. If you have them avalible reinstall the old memory and see if that works.

Ok, I need to contact the Acer Support via email. I tried their phone, and whoa.. $3 a minute? No thanks. And I'm deaf too, seriously.. have no pity. I used relay service on internet to reach them.
But where's or what's the email address to one of the Acer Techinican supporter? -

Some thoughts:
1. Did you try putting back the original RAM? Still dead?
2. Make sure the RAM is properly seated in the slots (I've sometimes failed to push the modules in far enough).
3. Disconnect the mains and take out the battery and leave the computer for a few hours, then connect power and retry.
4. What did you need to remove in order to swap the RAM modules?

2. It is properly seated, I even move it to other slot, nothing happens. I tried every possible ways with 4 sticks of RAM. Two of DDR2-533 and DDR2-667.
3. Done that, nothing happens as well.
4. I just disconnected the mains, and brought my laptop on my lap, and unscrewed the bottom part of laptop where the RAM is, and I put in the new sticks. Just removed the RAM, then insert a new one. That was simple. -

We seem to have exhausted the possible fixes. Put the original RAM back in and get everything as it was before calling Acer support with "my computer just died".
It is rare for the RAM upgrades to go wrong like this. You hit bad luck somewhere along the way.

Nah, I used power surge as an excuse. There was an actual power surge in my college campus in D.C.
I prefer not to call, so I emailed them... -

I already sent them an email ....
But what do you mean, Aleksandr? $3 per minute is just ridiclious. I use relay service phone all the times, and never encountered that. -
-
It uses javascript. It allows you to connect to whoever the service is, then the person thru the computer will relay your message to whoever you call.
Check it out.

I use it all the times, especially relaycall.com.
But dudes, let's just get back on topic with my laptop. I desperately want it to work. -
UPDATE:
I've gotten through the www.fixmyacer.com .. Now the FedEx is gonna come and pick it up tomorrow between 2:30PM to 5:30 or whenever. I'm excited for some reason, lol.. To know that my laptop is gonna be fixed. The email support doesn't do really well now. Yesterday I received their email, Victoria actually, and I replied. Hoped to hear from her today, but no replies. And I tried the www.fixmyacer.com and I got through.
Anyone who owns or had owned Acer laptop, did you have problems with having the laptop repaired?
Did I do something wrong? (Aspire 5670 & RAM)
