Would a core 2 duo t7200 have been much better?

You would be able to see a difference between those two CPUs only in demanding tasks like rendering... -

Ok then, the answer is that the jump from the T5600 to the T7200 will be slightly greater than the difference in speed alone would indicate, as the increased cache allows for better (i.e. less) memory access. But like Dreamer said, depends on what you use your laptop for.

You'll only really notice the extra cache on CPU intensive, repetitive tasks like audio/video encoding or for apps (like superPI) that can run entirely within the larger 4MB cache.
For day to day computing, you'll never notice the difference.
