I just purchased myself a budget desktop replacement HP notebook from Staples. It came with the Turion X2 RM-75.
Im just wondering if this was a better choice, in terms of performance and battery life, than the Athlon X2 QL-64 included in a simliarly spec'ed (and cheaper) Compaq notebook PC - which is now currently sold out....
I read reviews about the Athlon X2 model getting less than 2 hours of runtime from a single charge, and so far the Turion X2 hasnt faired any better. Shouldnt the Turion be slightly better since its a mobile version as opposed to the Athlon which is mainly intended for desktops?
Anyway, I am quite pleased with its speed and processing power so far; the Turion X2 along with the nVidia GeForce 8200M G and 3GB of RAM managed to score a respectable 3.6 on the Windows Experience Index, which was quite a bit better than the HP DV2 that I returned.

The RM-75 is slightly more powerful than the QL-64.

Terrible, terrible battery life but decent performance at a very low price, so Im happy with it for the most part. Its a desktop replacement, so it'll stay plugged in 90% of the time anyways. Handles most programs very well, and even some light gaming. The fan is annoyingly loud some of the time, though it seems to shift to different speeds quite smoothly and does a good job; heat isnt noticeable, even when gaming.
