My old Thinkpad A20M I was going to give to my little brother is giving me that blue screen except its different. The main thing that caught my eye was the following: "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME". Also, the HDD was making clicking noises as most hard drives do when they die. The clicking starts when it shows the Windows XP boot-up screen and it stops loading further.
So....it's dead isn't it?

sounds very much like it.

if you want to double check, you can always download your hd manufacturer's diagnostic tools. they usually load before you boot into windows. -
Make sure you back up your data if you haven't already. If you can't load up your drive on your laptop, take it out and use a USB enclosure with another computer to get data off.
Worst case: Your drive is corrupted and you'll need to use recovery software to get the data off. -
Worst case he can't get data off physically damaged disk in external enclosure, has to take to professional who may or may not be able to recover data and not cheap.
-
It doesn't matter really about the data because there was really nothing on it except some insignificant files.

Thanks for the help!
Looks like I need to get a new Hard Drive for my little brother. Good thing too because the HDD had only 1.68GB of user space available!

I sent you a private message, if you are looking for a cheap replacement harddrive.
