    Hello Everyone

I live in the UK and last night we had a storm/lighting which in this country its very rare to get one. I was up in my room playing a game with the room light turned off and while I was playing I seen a sudden flash(camera flash) ,coming from outside the windows(my blinds were all closed as its night time), I thought it was just someone using their camera so I took my headphones off and heard heavy rain clattering against the window.

My laptop was plugged in to wall outlet charging and has a surge protector, also I was using WI-FI and the router is downstairs. I seen 2 lighting flashes in total and then after 5 minutes the storm has ended. My laptop is facing the wall but the window is facing infront of the laptop so when I noticed the lighting flash, I can clearly see the flash bright.

The laptop is working normally as usual and the router didn't get disconnect or anything bad (touch wood) but I am uncertain/worried if the lighting flash/storm did damage the laptop screen/Hardware components since I read somewhere that a camera flash could damage the laptop screen , mines is a Matte screen

If your not having any problems, dont worry.

I have all the normal surge protectors, but i also bought the ones below.

EDIT: when we have a power cut, which is very rare i turn the main power to the house off, as i have heard that when the power comes back on there is an power surge that can damage your appliances.

Camera flash ruin a screen? Heck no, lol. You're fine. If your power didn't flicker and your laptop didn't start smoking and acting weird, it's fine.

All of our mains outlets have a power switchs, but it`s easier to turn off one main power switch than umpteen power socket switches.

To a surge, every wire is only an antenna connected directly to appliances. Even a millimeters gap in a switch does not stop what three kilometers of sky could not. The two centimeter part inside that magic protector box will stop surges? Hardly. View numbers for that £11.50 protector. A surge that is hundreds of thousands of joules will be absorbed by a thousand joules protector? Hardly.

Best and better protection was already inside that laptop. If any surge existed, internal laptop protection did better protection. However your concern is another surge that occurs maybe once every seven years (much less frequent in the UK); that can overwhelm existing laptop protection. No adjacent protector claims to protect or will even discuss that other and destructive surge. Protector that makes such surges irrelevant must be distant from a computer and low impedance (ie 'less than 3 meter') from single point earth ground. To protect the computer and all other appliances. This superior protector comes from companies with better reputations such as Keison, ABB, and Siemens.

BTW, the surge called power restoration means voltage increass slowly. Only myths claim a voltage spike exist. Appliances at greater risk during power restoration are motorized. Since these do not like the slowly recovering voltage. And since a slowly increasing voltage is actually better for electronic appliances.

Nothing special about our plugs, actually. Yes, different layout, but there's no ON/OFF on most of them. Some have a TEST and/or RESET button on them, but I haven't seen those in forever.

Wall socket buttons: What do the "test" and "reset" outlet buttons do?

I've been taking (flash) photos of laptops for the better part of a year when I was doing laptop reviews, as well as longer for my own laptops, and I've yet to see any difference in the displays whatsoever.
